The
Cross must be embraced and taken up daily as a principle of living.
This is the practical application of taking up the Cross. If we ever lay
down the Cross and attempt anything in our own
power then we will be defeated. But as we continually reckon ourselves
“dead indeed to sin but alive to God in Christ” (Romans 6:11) then what
is true in principle eventually becomes true in our experience: sin
begins to lose its power to control us, and we begin to see that we do
have a choice.
We will begin to see that we are no longer slaves to sin, but “if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed” (John 8:36).
