Do You Reflect a Follower of Jesus?

Do You Reflect a Follower of Jesus?

3.9.CC.ReflectFollowerJesus
“Let’s ask ourselves if we truly reflect a Christ follower. If not, then why?”
If your life as a Christian doesn’t look much different from those who oppose Christ, you might want to evaluate who you are following.
Jesus didn’t die on a cross so that we could continue living life for the world, but instead to pursue righteousness and the characteristics of Christdom.
1 John 2:15 states, “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”

Seek Identity in Him

This verse is powerful! God’s yearning for our life is to seek identity and purpose in him rather than the shallow and misguided ways of the world. Does this mean we cannot enjoy music, movies and other types of media that are not “faith-based”? No. But does this mean we should stray from things that lead us away from pursuing righteousness? Yes.
The roots of our faith should not be planted in the world, nor should they be fed by the world. We must seek nourishment and guidance from God alone. Yes, God alone!
If we are to call ourselves Christ-followers, then we better be ready to be compared to the holy person of Christ. Now, does this mean we are expected to be perfect? No. But does this mean we are to strive after the goodness and perfection of Christ himself? Yes.
But why? Because in doing so, you and I will both find transformation and change within our lives. Jesus is the model we are to fix our eyes on when chipping away the broken and fragmented pieces of our lives.

Refine Your Heart

Trust me when I say you’ll fail, mess up, make mistakes. We all do. Heck, you’ve maybe even done some of those things today. The ambition of a follower of Jesus should be to look different than you did the day before. We’ll never be perfect while here on earth, but we can do our best to dive deep into the Word of God and allow the Holy Spirit to refine our hearts.

Let’s Evaluate

Let’s ask ourselves if we truly reflect a Christ follower. If not, then why? Let’s open our hearts to be moved by the grace and hope of Jesus.
Whether you have tattoos, piercings, dyed hair or are clean cut—all of these things are irrelevant in terms of reflecting Christ. Made in his image comes in many shapes and forms, but the few aspects that will never change are grace, love, hope and mercy. Stray from the ways of the world, and run after a life that exudes the light of Christ.
