“He appointed twelve, that they might be with Him
and that He might send them out to preach…”

I
like the way Jesus selected His disciples, and the explanation as to
why they were selected: “That they might be with Him and that He might
send them out to preach.” Their being sent forth was contingent upon
their having been with the Lord. Preaching was only optional, but being
with Him was the primary objective. If they will only be with the Lord
then they will have something to say
when they do go forth.
